Abstract

Holmes tremor (HT) is both a resting and kinetic tremor (<4.5Hz) and results from lesions involving both the cerebellorubro-thalamic and nigrostriatal pathways. HT is difficult to treat with pharmacotherapy, although several antiepileptics, anticholinergics, clonazepam, isoniazid, and dopaminergic medications have been tried. Surgical treatment of HT revolves around lesioning or stimulation of thalamic or globus pallidus targets or combinations thereof. However, research in identifying newer targets with more efficacy in controlling tremor is necessary in the future.
