Abstract

We propose a new philosophy for operations management research that effectively brings together the various perspectives about what operations management is and how it should be studied. We contrast this holistic philosophy with the tradition of many researchers, journals, and editorial review boards that attempt to segregate the discipline into smaller and potentially less useful domains. We consider debates concerning research paradigms, methods, and theory development and in the end show how the opposing views actually create a richer, more complete research philosophy for operations management.
