Strategies to Screen for Stage B as a Heart Failure Prevention Intervention

Heart failure (HF) prevention is an indisputably laudable goal, albeit with undefined global public health impact in an increasingly elderly population with competing cardiovascular and noncardiovascular risks for morbidity and mortality. The understanding of cardiac and noncardiac structural and functional abnormalities that predispose to the diverse clinical HF syndrome is rapidly advancing, and novel approaches for prevention and treatment are needed. Successful approaches mandate not only identification of discrete therapeutic targets but also research into the developing sciences of health care delivery and behavioral modification. Targeting Stage B HF represents one such potential strategy.
