Abstract
The purpose of this review is to summarize present understanding of the biochemistry, the regulation, and the possible significance of dopamine beta hydroxylase (DBH) in the blood of man and of experimental animals and to point out areas in which information is lacking. The topics of biochemistry, assay methods, source, fate, and regulation of serum DBH as well as reported levels of serum DBH in human disease will each be discussed in turn. Although much is known about DBH in neural tissue and in the adrenal medulla, this information will be described only when relevant to an understanding of serum DBH.
