Abstract
There is an increasing number of genetic disorders that predispose to colorectal cancer. Although these syndromes probably account for <5% of colorectal cancers, clinical recognition of these disorders is essential to assure the best clinical recommendations. There are increased risks for second cancers - both GI and non-GI cancers - in the patients and their relatives. Diagnosis of a familial cancer predisposition syndrome guides clinical management including early detection and prevention of cancers in such families.
