Abstract

Primary aldosteronism is an under-recognized cause of hypertension and due to either unilateral or bilateral adrenal disease. Unilateral primary aldosteronism can be cured with surgery, whereas those patients with bilateral adrenal disease should be treated medically. For most patients adrenal venous sampling is needed to distinguish between unilateral or bilateral adrenal disease. Treatment outcomes with surgical cure are superior to those in patients managed medically.
