Abstract
Chronic wounds are a challenge regardless of the underlying etiology. Identification of patients at high risk for developing wounds can direct prevention strategies to those most likely to benefit. Once an ulcer occurs, treating the underlying medical condition, consistent offloading, and creating an optimal wound healing environment are all key to wound healing and avoiding recurrence.
