Abstract

The colon can be affected by a diverse array of diseases that result in mucosal injury. Colonic biopsies are routinely taken to help diagnose these inflammatory disorders, and it is essential that practicing pathologists are aware of the many diseases and can affect the large bowel. In this chapter, a discussion of the various patterns of colonic mucosal injury is provided to help guide pathologic reporting.
