Abstract

Neuro-oncologic emergencies can result from the underlying neoplasm and its treatment. Management of mass effect, epidural spinal cord compression, tumor-related epilepsy, and pituitary apoplexy are the most common neoplastic emergency scenarios and they are described in this chapter. Following tissue diagnosis and resection, cancer treatment frequently includes radiation in addition to systemic therapy. Consequently, we also review the most common neurologic emergencies related to both radiation and systemic cancer therapy.
