Abstract
Metabolic liver diseases can result into intra- and/or extrahepatic complications requiring orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT). Metabolic liver disease as a cause of OLT is proportionally more common in pediatric patients than adults. In adults the most common metabolic indications for OLT are NASH, alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency, hemochromatosis and Wilson disease. NASH as an indication for OLT will increase in the future and is predicted to become the leading cause for OLT in the near future.
