Abstract
Imaging description The lung algorithm is a high-spatial-frequency reconstruction convolution kernel that results in edge enhancement and is used to improve the quality of the lung images and show fine anatomic structures on CT [1]. However, an additional result of edge enhancement is that on CT the margin of the pulmonary artery will be of higher attenuation than the central portion (bright ring around the vessel) (Figure 86.1). Importance The higher attenuation margin of a pulmonary artery can mimic the appearance of pulmonary emboli, particularly if it is associated with flow artifact (poor contrast opacification of the vessel).
