Abstract

The use of lasers in cardiothoracic surgery was discussed. Transmyocardial laser revascularization (TMR), a potential treatment option for patients with end-stage coronary artery disease, involved using a laser to create transmural channels from the epicardial to endocardial surface of the left ventricle in regions of chronically ischemic myocardium. The efficacy of the three lasers used for TMR was compared.
