Abstract

The function of the liver in metabolism, clearance of toxins, and regulation of immune responses leaves it susceptible to infectious processes. The hepatic microenvironment promotes immune tolerance toward certain antigens to allow this immunoregulatory function. Imaging often proves nonspecific to identify the causative infectious or inflammatory process with diagnosis often requiring clinical, pathological, and radiological correlation. The aim of this chapter is to describe the common infectious pathologies that affect the liver, summarizing their clinical presentation, imaging appearance, and pathological characteristics.
