N1 - Funding Information: This memorial includes material previously published in The Cancer Letter. Dr Limburg serves as Chief Medical Officer for Screening at Exact Sciences through a contracted services agreement with Mayo Clinic. Dr Limburg and Mayo Clinic have contractual rights to receive royalties through this agreement. Mayo Clinic has an intellectual property agreement with Exact Sciences under which Dr. Kisiel is listed as an inventor and may receive royalties. Funding Information: Dr Ahlquist started and finished his illustrious medical career in Rochester, MN. He earned his medical degree from Mayo Medical School (1977; as part of the second-ever graduating class) and completed his Internal Medicine residency (1980) and Gastroenterology fellowship (1983) training through the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. Dave subsequently joined the Mayo Clinic Gastroenterology & Hepatology faculty (1983), serving in numerous internal leadership positions (eg, Director of Endoscopy; President of the Staff; and Medical Director, Department of Development) and receiving multiple prominent institutional awards (eg, Research Career Achievement Award, Mayo Clinic Investigator of the Year Award, and Distinguished Inventor Award) before retiring in 2018. Dr Ahlquist’s seminal contributions were further recognized externally by the highly prestigious William Beaumont Prize from the American Gastroenterological Association (for career achievement in innovation that has affected practice), designation as an Exemplar of Translational Research by the National Cancer Institute, induction as a Fellow in the National Academy of Inventors, and many other distinguished honors. His scholarly productivity includes more than 25 years of continuous funding from the National Institutes of Health, more than 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters, and more than 80 issued patents.
