No ideal imaging method is available for the diagnosis of MTC. Once the diagnosis is suspected, serum calcitonin or CEA may help to confirm it. Often, multiple studies are done, especially a combination of MR imaging or ultrasound and an isotopic method. Tc(V)DMSA is an excellent agent but not readily available in the United States. Indium-labeled pentreotide is probably the imaging agent of choice in the United States (Table 5).
