Abstract

Infections are a common cause of gastrointestinal disease. This chapter focuses on the more common infectious causes of diarrhea, food poisoning, and diverticulitis. It does not review Helicobacter pylori, bacterial overgrowth, or infections in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive patients, which are considered in other chapters.
