Abstract

Across the globe, upwards of 75 million people are diagnosed with alcohol use disorders and maladaptive alcohol use is a major cause of liver disease worldwide. Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) can present as a spectrum of disorders ranging from asymptomatic liver test derangements to severe acute hepatitis or end stage chronic liver disease. The incidence and prevalence of ALD varies across geographic areas and is influenced by gender, race, and socioeconomic factors.
