Endoscopic ultrasound is considered one of the most sensitive imaging modalities to evaluate the pancreas. The close proximity of the high resolution ultrasound transducer to the pancreas allows the gastroenterologist to obtain fine details of the parenchyma and ductal system of the entire gland. When clinically indicated, a fine needle aspiration can be performed in order to provide tissue for cytological diagnosis. This article will review the role of endoscopic ultrasound in benign pancreatic diseases.
