Abstract

EMR and ESD have emerged as important therapeutic options for premalignant and early stage GI malignancies. These techniques also aid in the diagnosis and therapy of subepithelial lesions localized to the muscularis mucosa or submucosa. Several dedicated EMR and ESD devices are available to facilitate these procedures. Complication rates are higher after EMR and ESD relative to other basic endoscopic interventions. Further research on long-term outcomes and development of devices to enhance safety are needed.
