The design of the endoscopy procedure room should be non-threatening for the patient and provide an efficient, satisfying work environment for the endoscopist and gastrointestinal assistant. Major aspects of room design are addressed. Included are discussions of room size and configuration, the activity zone concept, infection control, utilities, controls, and equipment. These major aspects of room design are applied to the development of a general purpose or specialized procedure room.
