Abstract

The inverse ultrasonic scattering problem was approached by discretizing the Rytov form of the Helmholtz equation and subsequently digitally backward propagating the measured scattered wave through the object space from a multiplicity of views. By summing the backward propagated phases, one obtains a first approximation to the refraction index distribution. Advantages and disadvantages of the new method are discussed along with results in two dimensions.
