Complex extensor mechanism reconstructions in total knee arthroplasties

Matthew P. Abdel, Arlen D. Hanssen

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Complications involving the extensor mechanism following total knee arthroplasty can be difficult to manage.Unfortunately, a significant number of patients with complete disruption of the extensor mechanism will require surgical interventions, which have demonstrated mixed results.Complications following reconstructions of the extensor mechanism include re-rupture, postoperative infection and persistent extensor lag.Patients should be counseled of the severity of their problem and their expectations should be appropriately managed.
