Abstract
Male breast cancer (MaBC) is a rare disease, and as such, recommendations for its management are often extrapolated from the female breast cancer literature. However, given the differences between men and women in tumor and host biology, therapeutic choices and their toxicities, psychosocial issues, and recurrence risk, survivorship guidelines designed for women may not be entirely appropriate for MaBC patients. Therefore, a more nuanced approach to survivorship care in MaBC, taking these differences into account, is required. A personalized survivorship plan for MaBC patients addressing their unique needs is likely to lead to a better quality of life and improve treatment compliance in MaBC survivors.
