Abstract

This chapter is an evidence-based review of a clinical topic of importance in dementia care: management of Alzheimer's disease. Four focused, answerable questions are critically appraised: (1) treatment of mild cognitive impairment to delay progression to AD, (2) treatment of mild to moderate dementia due to AD, (3) treatment of moderate to severe dementia due to AD, and (4) treatment of agitation in dementia. This chapter delves into the evidence itself, discusses the findings, provides a short summary of the results with commentary, and emphasizes the clinical bottom line or take-home summary message and implications for practice.
