Abstract

The link protein fraction of bovine epiphyseal plate cartilage was isolated using a method previously described by this laboratory. Amino acid analysis, polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and in vitro proteoglycan aggregation studies gave results similar to those previously reported for bovine nasal and articular links. Immunodiffusion studies of epiphyseal plate and articular links showed that the two tissues have immunologically indistinguishable link fractions. As in other bovine cartilages, two main link proteins were identified, but the lower molecular weight protein was more prominent in epiphyseal than in nasal or articular cartilage.
