Abstract

Bullous or blistering diseases are caused by a variety of traumatic, infectious, inflammatory, and autoimmune conditions. For the healthcare worker with migrants, it is essential to identify the underlying cause, in order to give a successful treatment. As blistering diseases can range from localized unpleasant disorders to widespread and life-threatening diseases, it is of utmost importance to determine, at an early stage, the patients at risk. Some patients can be treated in migrant camps, while others should be transferred to a hospital for adequate care. It is for this reason that the main focus of this chapter is on recognition. Next to that, suggestions for first line of treatment are provided. This chapter concentrates on common blistering diseases that a primary care provider will encounter in migrants. The authors aimed to provide some helpful tools for recognition and treatment. Diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations are based upon the available equipment and medicines.
