Abstract
Intracoronary thrombus is usually present in acute myocardial infarction and often in unstable angina.1 At angioplasty, the presence of residual thrombus places the patient at increased risk for complications,2,3 especially total occlusion. Heparin, aspirin and thrombolytic agents have been used to reduce the risk of occlusion, but with mixed results. We describe the use of suction aspiration to remove thrombus from a coronary stenosis before percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA).
