Born and Rytov approximations to the Helmholtz equation are described using graphical methods in the spatial Fourier domain. Angular spectra of scattered waves are graphic a l l y related t o an estimate of the Fourier transform of the variations in compressibility of the object. The Fourier transform of the compressibility i s also graphically related to the angular spectrum of the scattered wave.
