Abstract

Abdominal manifestations in AIDS patients include opportunistic infection and neoplastic disease. Diseases that are related to HIV treatment or high-risk behavior can be also seen. Knowledge of clinical symptoms, degree of immunodeficiency, route of HIV infection, and current treatment or prophylaxis are important in image interpretation. Imaging findings may be non-specific and it is often impossible to determine the offending organisms or histology of the neoplasm. However, radiologists can often guide clinicians to decide the next action whether it may be empirical treatment or obtaining tissue sample.
