REGULATION OF HEPATIC FIBROGENEISS BY TANGO1

PROJECT NARRATIVE Liver cirrhosis develops in response to continued injury to the liver, which increases the formation of scar tissue. An important part of scar tissue is collagen I which is made by liver cells. Treatments aimed at disrupting collagen I incorporation into scar tissue have had limited success in treating liver fibrosis, leading us to study how liver cells produce and release collagen I. The goal of our research is to understand how collagen I is moved so that new treatments can target this process and thereby limit collagen I release and scar tissue formation.
