Abstract
The primary benefits of a mucosal-lined tracheohypopharyngeal shunt formed by a NTL include the avoidance of a prosthesis and the advantage of a muscle-lined vibratory segment driven by air exiting into the hypopharynx. A NTL will consistently provide successful vocal rehabilitation. The success of the procedure in appropriately selected patients relies on the integrated expertise of the surgeon and speech pathologist.
