Abstract

We report here the homogeneous introduction of chlorine and fluorine into glassy carbon (GC) via the low temperature thermal treatment (330-600°C) of perhalogenated poly(phenylene diacetylene) oligomers. We have examined the physical properties of chlorine doped, fluorine doped undoped GC and conventionally prepared GC, including their electrical conductiveness, densities, elastic moduli, thermal stabilities and surface energies, to determine the affect of the incorporation of dopants on the carbon solids.
