Spectral components of the P300 speller response in electrocorticography

Abstract

Recent studies have demonstrated that the P300 Speller can be used to reliably control a brain-computer interface via scalp-recorded electroencephalography (EEG) and intracranial electrocorticography (ECoG). However, the exact reasons why some disabled individuals are unable to successfully use the P300 Speller remain unknown. The superior bandwidth and spatial resolution of ECoG compared to EEG may provide more insight into the nature of the responses evoked by the P300 Speller. This study examines the spatio-temporal progression of the P300 Speller response in ECoG for six conventional frequency bands.
