Electronic display devices are becoming common-place in primary diagnostic interpretation of digital images in radiology. An initial pilot investigation indicates that contrast-detail data should be helpful in providing quantitative measurements of overall electronic display quality. The contrast-detail method would be suitable for new equipment selection, acceptance testing, and quality control. Furthermore, the associated protocol would only involve observer data obtained using test images with midrange background pixel values.
