Promoting Efficiency in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy

The growth in GI endoscopy as a specialty endeavor and as a business has prompted the need for specialization in design and administration of facilities and has generated significant interest in means for improving efficiency. Understanding processes and awareness of current performance are key to improving efficiency. Performance tracking and improvement is greatly facilitated by adequate data, which can be generated only by computerized reporting tools and the electronic medical record. When the tools and initiative are available, most elements of care in the endoscopy unit are fertile ground for improvement and enhanced efficiency.
