Abstract

Considerable evidence has shown that there is a kind of special pharmacological GABA receptors in central nervous system, especially prominent along visual pathways. These receptors are neither antagonized by bicuculline nor activated by baclofen, but are activated selectively by the GABA analogue cis-4-aminocrotonic acid (CACA), its response did not show desensitization. These receptors have been termed GABAc receptors. It may play an important role in the visual information transmission and modulation of retinal rod pathway.
