Abstract

PHARMACOLOGIC TREATMENT OF DYSLIPIDEMIA ▪ Goal-directed therapy for dyslipidemia is outlined in Table 1. Statins ▪ Statin agents work through at least two mechanisms in patients with dyslipidemia. ▪ Statins inhibit the enzyme responsible for the rate limit-ing step of cholesterol biosynthesis and HMG coenzyme A reductase and thus directly inhibit cholesterol biosynthesis.
