Abstract

Prophylactic use of a beta-blocker to reduce postoperative cardiac events is an important advancement in the field of perioperative medicine. Perioperative use of a beta-blocker to prevent surgical cardiovascular morbidity and mortality is baed on physiologic principles and supported by empirical evidence. It is a relatively simple and low-cost strategy.
