Abstract
Protocols for conducting the mechanical evaluation of a non-constrained metacarpophalangeal (MCP) prosthesis for finger replacement were developed. Mechanical evaluation was conducted in two phases; fatigue testing at a fixed flexion angle of 30° and wear testing at flexion/extension angles from 0 to 90°. Upon the completion of both tests, the components and control specimens were again submitted for surface profiling. The change in component volume was determined by aligning and subtracting pre- and post-surface images.
