Epidemiology of myoclonus.

All studies that attempt to evaluate the general occurrence of myoclonus have various biases. Even so, myoclonus has been demonstrated to be an important cause of abnormal movement control when compared to other movement disorders. Clearly, posthypoxia etiology, neurodegenerative disease, and epilepsy syndromes are important individual causes of myoclonus. The epidemiology of myoclonus is worthy of further study in other defined populations.
