Abstract
Using a finite element myocardium-blood composite model, an expression is derived for calculating myocardial fiber length changes in the infarcted and not-infarcted regions of the left ventricular (LV) cross section during the diastole phase of cardiac cycle. The expression uses predetermined blood volume fraction data and the ventricular wall thickness measurable from the LV walls as visualized in short-axis tomographic images of LV.
