Pancreatic duct obstruction may explain some cases of acute pancreatitis, of which ampullary dysfunction and pancreas divisum are the most controversial examples. There is no consensus regarding the value of secretin-ultrasound testing for functional pancreatic outlet obstruction, but refinements may improve its clinical utility.
