Autosomal recessive inheritance: An updated review

Familiarity with the principles of inheritance is becoming increasingly important in clinical practice. Many AR disorders are familiar to pediatric dermatologists. Some examples are summarized in Table 1. Some unifying features of AR disorders include the importance of consanguinity, the horizontal appearance of the pedigree, and importance of genetic counseling that impacts the entire family. Independently, however, each AR disorder has unique factors in its clinical presentation, family history, and genetic testing that are important in assessing patients individually.
