Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program - Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa, M.D.

The Foundation's Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program was designed to provide four-year postdoctoral research awards offered to historically disadvantaged physicians who are committed to developing careers in academic medicine, to improving the health of underserved populations, and to furthering the understanding and elimination of health disparities. The purpose of this project is to study the effects that epidermal growth factor and platelet-derived growth factor independently have on the migration and proliferation of human neural stem cells and brain tumor stem cells in order to understand brain tumor dispersal and potential neoplastic transformation with genetic manipulations. Such an understanding may provide insight into tumor cell-of-origin and migration, and thus lead to novel therapies. The awardee is Alfredo Qui?ones-Hinohosa, M.D., at Johns Hopkins University.
